We have already forgotten the warm days of summer, the thin mornings of spring and the lazy afternoons of fall.
The chilling winds of winter creep and swirl across the hill, leaving the mound alone, iced, and cold.
Nothing remains in the garden, perhaps a lonely stalk, forgotten stiff and cold...
Kay drives past. Lynn walks the trail.
The path greets a solitary visitor here and there...
forgetting that the little warmth of afternoons are short.
The clouds spill closer to the ground and leave scrapes of frost or just a crunch underfoot.
Time to go inside.... and wait for the next monthly lecture.
................................................................................... Volunteers at the Education Center visit less frequently when there is snow on the ground. If you are stopping by, look for the "OPEN" banner ourside our door: or, stop by the front desk and ask if the center is open...

The Friends of Tijeras Pueblo, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, host a variety of activities and events including site tours, classroom outreach, monthly lectures/programs and summer demonstrations and workshops. Volunteers are always needed for these activites. We need folks to act as hosts for our new Interpretive Center, allowing public or private visits, and/or just to keep it open for regular "available" or "drop-in" hours.
A series of volunteer orientation sessions is currently in progress and new sessions are held throughout the year. New volunteers are always welcome. Please call Judy at (505)286-7961 if you are interested in sharing your time or have any questions about our volunteer opportunities. . . Do you know that the Friends are the proud hosts of a Southwest Reference Library that provides dozens of volumes for public and academic access? Keeping our Interpretive Center available and open helps us to keep reseach and the rich heritage of Tijeras Pueblo alive today.

ABOUT THE FRIENDS OF TIJERAS PUEBLO...
The Friends of Tijeras Pueblo is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, all volunteer organization that, in partnership with the Sandia Ranger District, seeks to promote understanding, awareness, appreciation and protection of archaeological resources throughout the Cibola National Forest. Developing and implementing educational programs and activities and the facilities that house them are paramount to our organization's efforts to provide an environment where visitors, children and adults alike, can learn about archaeology and the ancestral pueblo culture of the East Mountains.
National Register of Historic Places
The National Register of Historic Places entered the Tijeras Pueblo Archaeological Site on November 17, 2005. The site was listed at the national level of significance, the highest level of designation. The importance of this pre-columbian archaeological site has at long last been recognized. We gratefully accept the congratulations of the State of New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs - Historic Preservation Division. We are proud of this designation and are eagerly working to support the preservation of New Mexico's rich cultural heritage.
