Welcome to the new HOME PAGE for the FRIENDS OF TIJERAS PUEBLO!
Over the next few months we will be doing some "remodelling" to our website. and this will become our official Home Page. For now, you will see most of the same pages you are familiar with. Then, gradually, you will see color, content and informational changes. Feel free to come back often to see "What's NEW."

The Friends of Tijeras Pueblo, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, host a variety of events. Our monthly lecture/programs feature guest lecturers and presentations that are sure to interest most folks. Throughout the year the Friends will sponsor other events, such as "Saturday Afternoon at Tijeras Pueblo", "Star Nights" during the summer months, and special archaeology, pottery and flint knapping workshops. We are happy to conduct special tours of the Tijeras Pueblo Archaeological site and open our new Tijeras Pueblo Education Center for public or private visit. The Friends are the proud sponsors of the Junior Archaeologist Program held at the Sandia Ranger Station and the Sandia Crest.
You can count on the Friends for a stimulating evening program when you attend one of our monthly lecture/programs. The "Featured Program" is held at 7 pm, the second Tuesday of the month (excepting June, July and August when the lecture series is "on vacation"). We meet in the large conference room at the Sandia Ranger Station in Tijeras. Be sure and check out our next lecture by visiting Our Events. We are told that the topics are always interesting and that the refreshments are great!
ABOUT THE FRIENDS OF TIJERAS PUEBLO...
The Friends of Tijeras Pueblo is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, all volunteer organization that, in partnership with the Sandia Ranger District, seeks to promote understanding, awareness, appreciation and protection of archaeological resources throughout the Cibola National Forest. Developing and implementing educational programs and activities and the facilities that house them are paramount to our organization's efforts to provide an environment where visitors, children and adults alike, can learn about archaeology and the ancestral pueblo culture of the East Mountains.
National Register of Historic Places
The National Register of Historic Places entered the Tijeras Pueblo Archaeological Site on November 17, 2005. The site was listed at the national level of significance, the highest level of designation. The importance of this pre-columbian archaeological site has at long last been recognized. We gratefully accept the congratulations of the State of New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs - Historic Preservation Division. We are proud of this designation and are eagerly working to support the preservation of New Mexico's rich cultural heritage.
